ATV
Our nearby ATV trails are sought out by riders far and wide and of every skill level. Enjoy several trail systems encompassing more than 250 kilometres of trail. Many trails offer riders breathtaking panoramas and vistas, including views of wide lakes and waterways, open meadows, rolling hills and untamed forests. Rent one today or we can rent one for you!
Hiking
Enjoy nearby hiking trails in the summer and snowshoeing / cross-country skiing in the winter.
Here’s a few of our suggestions:
- Harrington Park on Horseshoe Lake Road provides hikers a wonderful glimpse of the Minden Wild Water Preserve and rapids.
- Minden Hills has many other trails to enjoy a nice walk among great scenery.
- Snowden Park is an option for those wanting a little longer hike and options of shorter trails along the way. The wetland and forest preserve also provides winter activities such as snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, while bird watchers enjoy the many species on hand.
- Minden Wild Water Preserve With 100 acres, this park includes campsites with picnic tables and fire pits. When you’re not canoeing or kayaking, take advantage of the three-kilometre trail system on foot or on your bike.
Golfing
Spend the day with your friends and family golfing amid the natural beauty and terrain of the Kawartha Highlands!
- Blairhampton Golf Club – this 18-hole course is easily playable for various levels of golfer
- Gull River Golf Club – this historic 9-hole course is over 70 years old with three holes by the waters’ edge of The Gull River and Beaver Creek.
Water Sports

Boating Resources
We are right on the shore of Crystal Lake, with plenty of open space for your powerboats, water skis and watercraft. You can bring your own boat and gear and launch from our dock, we can rent it for you, or you can rent equipment directly from nearby Crystal Lake Marina.
Explore Kawartha’s secluded rivers and wide-open lakes by canoe or kayak. Catch a lakeside breeze in your sails or go houseboating with family and friends!

Fishing
Crystal Lake, which is the lake of our cottage’s waterfront, is 160’ deep, crystal clear and spring fed, making it one of the most popular fishing destinations in Ontario! The cool, clean, deep water provides lots of food and is an ideal habitat for lake trout, largemouth bass, pickerel, and rock bass.
Also known for it’s ice fishing, Kawartha Lakes has several easy-access ice fishing options around Peterborough & the Kawarthas. Or for a more adventurous option, check out the Kawartha Highlands for a unique back-country experience!

Winter Activities
Snowmobiling
Experience the excitement and adventure of snowmobiling in Kawartha! With 166 kilometers of groomed snowmobile routes through breathtaking trails of snow-laden pines and maples, you are guaranteed a great ride! With trails located only minutes away from our cottage, snowmobiling makes for a fun winter excursion! (*Trail users must have a valid permit, license, and insurance).
Skiing/Snowboarding
- Sir Sam’s Ski Hill: Ski at your skill level on 14 runs of 40 acres of Canadian Shield hardwood forest.
- Devil’s Elbow Ski and Snowboard Area: Located amongst the rolling hills of Bethany, whether you are a black-diamond veteran or a first timer, there’s a perfect run for you!
- Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoeing: Explore more than 600 km of trails that link many of our charming communities together. (Snowshoeing is a great choice for a fun winter activity because it’s easy to learn, inexpensive and can be enjoyed by people of all ages and fitness levels).

Ice Skating Trails
Lace up your skates and test out one of these skating rinks! (*Note: Outdoor rinks are ice and weather-dependent, so be sure to check ahead before venturing out).
- Fern’s Resort – 1.5 km skate trail winds its way through wooded countryside in Ontario’s Lake Country.
- Trent Severn Waterway – public skating on the canal at the historic Peterborough Liftlock.
- The Lakefield Oval – 400-meter track of well-maintained outdoor ice provides you with the opportunity to test your speed skating skills!
Snowtubing and Tobogganing
Rocket down a snow-packed track for some winter fun! (PS: We have a great hill on the back of our property for tobogganing!)
